My Approach
I know from experience that “one size fits all” medicine does not work for chronic health issues. My approach considers you as an individual with personal requirements, preferences and goals. Each of my clients has a unique set of root causes and reasons to be where they are. To address them, I combine evidence-based nutrition, clinical experience and laboratory testing to create a nutrition and lifestyle plan personalised for you. We then work together using Health Coaching tools to implement this plan into your life.
I will support you in making gentle, achievable and sustainable changes that benefit your physical, mental, and emotional health.
How we start
Our work starts by investigating all the possible causes of your symptoms including:
blood sugar imbalances
toxic exposure
food sensitivities and intolerances
nutrient deficiencies
pathogens including: parasites, bacteria and viruses
hormone imbalances
personal stressors and triggers
I may use lab testing to fully investigate certain issues and will discuss this with you during our consultation.
Our journey together
Once I have uncovered the root causes of your symptoms, I will support you to make positive changes with a personalised nutrition and lifestyle plan just for you.
A typical plan includes:
dietary advice
supplement recommendations (if needed)
lifestyle recommendations e.g. sleep, and movement
comprehensive analysis of drug-nutrient interactions if you are on any medications
simple kitchen swaps and recipes (if needed)
lab test interpretation (if needed)
Please get in touch for a free, no-obligation call so we can have a chat about how you are feeling and how I may be able to help.
Functional Medicine
I have trained in nutritional therapy using the Functional Medicine approach that combines the best scientific practices of Western medicine with the holistic approach of integrative medicine.
Functional Medicine uses the latest scientific methods to identify and address the root causes of a person’s symptoms instead of looking at symptoms in isolation.
Rather than just a “sticking plaster” Functional Medicine aims to understand why the problem occurred in the first place and address the underlying factors contributing to a person’s symptoms. It provides individualised care that considers genetic, environmental, lifestyle and nutritional factors that can influence health.
Functional medicine is a holistic, patient-centred approach that views the body as a whole system and identifies imbalances which can ultimately manifest as symptoms elsewhere. This interconnected approach to health helps to address underlying issues to promote long-term health and wellbeing.
Functional medicine is based on preventative and restorative lifestyle strategies, whereas conventional medicine treatments are only started once disease has already developed.
“It is more important to know what sort of person has a disease than to know what sort of disease a person has.”
– Hippocrates
How does it work?
Working with a Nutritional Therapist starts with a detailed life-long history of a person and their symptoms. We look for what may have triggered the symptoms in the first place (e.g. a virus) and what may still be driving the symptoms (e.g. autoimmune reaction). We work on understanding the person’s unique biochemical imbalances, lifestyle and dietary triggers, toxic exposures, genetic variations.
Together, we identify what has tipped the balance and how we can bring the body back into balance.
Specialised laboratory testing may be suggested if indicated. Functional testing may involve in-depth analysis of nutritional status, gut health, hormone profiles, heavy metal toxicity screens and immune function.
Every client plan is unique and may involve a combination of specific nutritional recommendations, lifestyle modification and supplements. Working together continues with step-by-step methodical introduction of these changes into your everyday life.
